What prompted you to participate in a research study with McAllen Research?
I first learned about the opportunity to participate in a clinical trial when I saw information about vaccine research in my community. I reached out to McAllen Research, who connected me with the appropriate study team. My initial involvement was in a Phase 3 vaccine trial, and later I was invited by McAllen Research to participate in a follow‑on booster vaccine study.

Why did you choose to participate in a research study?
At the time, the pandemic was severely affecting daily life and health outcomes. I was particularly moved by the sacrifices of essential workers who continued to serve our community at great personal risk. I wanted to contribute in a meaningful way to the development of a vaccine that could protect individuals and help end the crisis. Since I was healthy and motivated to help, participating in a clinical trial seemed like a purposeful way to support scientific progress and community health.

What was the process like working with McAllen Research?
From my first interaction, McAllen Research handled my inquiries with professionalism and clarity. Their staff explained the objectives of the study, answered my questions thoroughly, and guided me through each step of the process. During in‑clinic visits and wellness checks, the team was friendly, attentive, and respectful. I always felt that my contribution was valued and that my safety was a priority throughout the trial.

What did you think of clinical trials before participating?
Before joining a study, I had a general awareness that medical treatments are tested in clinical trials, but I did not fully appreciate their importance. The pandemic brought the role of clinical research into sharp focus for me. Although some friends and family expressed concern about the risks of a new vaccine, I understood that clinical trials are essential to determine whether treatments are safe and effective for public use.

How has your experience differed from what you originally expected?
I did not enter the process with specific expectations. However, the experience was very positive and rewarding. Working with McAllen Research gave me the confidence that clinical trials are conducted with great care and professionalism. I feel proud to have played a role in a process that contributes to advancing medical care.

What advice would you give to someone considering participation in a clinical trial?
I would encourage prospective participants to ask questions and take the time to understand the purpose of the study, how the investigational product is intended to work, and what the trial involves. Being informed helps you assess any potential risks and fosters a sense of purpose in contributing to scientific advancement. Clinical trials are a critical mechanism for developing new, safe, and effective medications and treatments for the broader community.
